Our four years would require a book, but we’ll do our best to condense it into 500 words.
Year of Inception:
August 30th, 2015--MIZIZI was a one man operation run and founded by 20 year old Paakow Essandoh. A millennial dreamer at worst and a man with an ingenious idea at best.
In 2015, he released “The Starting Line Up,” an African inspired jersey collection featuring Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Black Africa.
Rapid Expansion:
July 24, 2016-- We made the conscious decision to represent every African country when we dropped our African Games Collection, inspired by the World Olympics. These were a one drop collection, meaning each is one of a kind and a collector’s item to many.
June 26, 2017-- West Indies stand up! We released our West Indies inspired baseball collection consisting of Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, and an all encompassing West Indies.
September 24, 2017-- The AfroLatinX collection came to life. We had an 8 jersey collection for this initially and eventually brought it down it to four--Brazil, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica.
Legacy:
February 17, 2018--It started off as a little seed, but sprouted into a real life collaboration with Marvel’s Black Panther. In February, we released our Wakanda Baseball jersey.
August 30, 2018-- At this point MIZIZI is more than a clothing line, its an international movement. At year 3, we spanned across the globe and made our physical presence known in Paris, Johannesburg, China, London, Eswatini, and Australia in 2018 alone.
Foundations:
April 4, 2019-- 2019 has been all about leveling up. Leveling up our content team (shoutout to our creative everything Temi Thomas, our photographer Kwesi, and our designer Ken!) We handled up on customer service and inventory (props to MIZIZI Mama) and all Paakow’s creative ideas were brought to fruition (that could only be operation Kween’s Vivian’s doing.) 2019 felt sweet.
July 18, 2019--Anotha one. We announced our Lion King collaboration with Disney. One day we’ll do a segment about how that one unfolded.
